The Pythia, the seeress-prophetess of the oracle at Delphi sits
above the dark abyss of the human psyche. From the collective unconscious rises the archetypes, revealing penetrating prophecies and intuitions. She raises her arms towards the sun god, Apollo, the prince-scientist of the Atlantean solar dynasty. She is flanked by two royal lions. The rosebush indicates divine passion and the mushrooms, her ecstacy.
The Pythia was the prophetess-seeress of Apollo, the ancient Greek sun god. During all the ages of Hellas, she was the supreme state oracle. Here is one of her most famous prophecies: King Croesus sent an emissary bearing rich gifts to Delphi. The emissary asked a simple question of the Pythia: "What will happen when the Army of Croesus crosses the river Knossus?"
The Pythia replied: "When the army of KingCroesus crosses the river Knossus, a great empire shall fall."
Whereupon, King Croesus invaded the Persian empire. His army was beaten by the Persians and his kingdom conquered. The enraged king sent a second emissary to Delphi to complain about receiving a false prophecy, whereupon the oracle replied:"When the army of King Croesus crosses the river Knossus, a great empire shall fall. Did it not?"
