Since everybody else is talking about the current state of "no" affairs in Washington I thought I would put my two cents in too. After all this is a country of free speech. I think. However, the older I get the many different views I have according the situation and circumstances that life brings. So to say something is really factual, I believe could be quite difficult if one is trying to be objective.

I recently saw a man on TV say that he killed 52 or more people and he had a right to do so because he had suffered. He considered himself a better person than the peopled he killed. This was somewhere in the Ukraine I think. Well, this killer stated the true problem of man when one thinks He or She is better than someone else. I think we all suffer with this one once in awhile in our lives. But the idea is to try to be honest about this situation in relationship to the world and ourselves. The killer's victims were destroyed by this man because he thought he was above the law. The problem is, as I see it, when do the law makers break the law by following the law. Is Ken Starr breaking the law by following the law? This is the real danger to all societies.

What made Abraham Lincoln, the most respected member of the Republican Party, so great? If you read some of his speeches you will see the time and detail he spent in reviewing the situation and reviewing the nature and condition of all the people involved in the particular topic he happened to be talking about. I have read many books about Abraham Lincoln, since I was born on his birthday his life has always been very important to me, but I have never read many words written by him. When I read the book, Abraham Lincoln Great Speeches, I was able to come closer to this man and who he really was. And I always thought that the people who wrote about President Lincoln somehow always fell short of who he was and what he represented. Reading his own words brought me closer to him as a real person and not a person in the distance or some hero that we cannot touch, but a person who lived, spoke, and thought.

What he represented is the real topic of this essay! For my question is what are the Republicans trying to represent in their impeachment trail against President Clinton? They say they are representing the Law of the Land and the Constitution. And what is so interesting most all Republicans express themselves in part mostly the same way and in the same tone of voice. It seems to me, they are clones repeating one another's words over and over again to have it come into our heads that the American People should impeach the President. Because the Republicans say that we should and because they are the majority in the House and Senate.

Education, it is a wonder about Education, what is education? I have never seen so many men make such buffoons of themselves in public trying to uphold the Constitution and the Law of the Land. I have to ask myself what kind of education do these men have? Or are they just bought and sold like a toy in a store? I have often said, "the human race is beyond my comprehension." And in this Impeachment Trail the actions of the Republicans and some Democrats is beyond my understanding. And they are so serious about their attitudes and beliefs that their behavior is so independent and out of touch with what is going on in the country.

Abraham Lincoln's whole career was based on the opposite assumption that what was going on was what was important and not so much his own views.

When Abraham Lincoln made a decision he did not make decisions based on his beliefs. He made decisions based on the beliefs of the Nation and the beliefs of the Founding Fathers. He studied the lives of all 39 Founding Fathers and including the decisions they made while in the U.S. Government, or when they held office or wrote opinions. It is interesting for me that a man of such vision and purity was so concerned about the opinions of the people who came before him. He studied politicians.

So, I have heard the Republicans say over and over again that they are following the Constitution and the Law of the Land in this Impeachment Trail. However, if you study President Clinton's behavior he too is following the Constitution and the Law of the Land and that is why I believe so many people in this country are supporting him, 72% as of this date, February 05, 1999. And according to Abraham Lincoln the man who helped make the Republican Party, the opinions of the people in the land were the most important opinions not his own thoughts.

Abraham Lincoln's Speech at the Cooper Institute, New York, February 27, 1860 he said, "Now and here, let me guard a little against being misunderstood. I do not mean to say we are bound to follow implicitly in whatever our fathers did. To do so, would be to discard all the lights of current experience--to reject all progress--all improvement. What I do say is, that if we would supplant the opinions and policy of our fathers in any case, we should do so upon evidence so conclusive, and argument so clear, that even then great authority, fairly considered and weighed, cannot stand; and most surely not in a case where of we ourselves declare they understood the question better than we."

These words are of a profound nature in the way one rules in our country if we are going to base our thoughts on past history and creative thinking. Since, Jefferson, had children by another woman and many other Presidents have had mistresses I think the Republican argument that the President broke the law in trying to protect his family from perilous gossip by lying is a very weak assumption. Since, so many Presidents had girl friends of one kind or another, I believe a man has a duty and a right to protect his family from perilous gossip. I cannot think otherwise that President Clinton's only thought by lying was to protect his family which was a higher moral act than telling the truth. Therefore, is it right for the Republicans to waste all this time and money on this act?

I cannot think that Ken Starr would understand the words higher moral act. To him, it seems, he has a vision of a narrow view of the law and not a creative view as President Lincoln expressed in the words above. It seems to me we have gone forward in Science and Materialism, but have moved backwards in moral concepts and creative governing. I wonder if there is anybody in Washington with any real brains? Ken Starr seems outwardly very intelligent and is professional in his craft. I believe that there is another layer of law in all law and that is the moral aspect of the law which is creative thinking which is the kind of law Abraham Lincoln believed in. Not in this narrow minded law, two kinds of justice, that modern lawyers practice which is the adversarial type of law, except we have to thrive for a better way to practice law and not be limited to one way which President Lincoln guarded against in his behavior to always be open to the new and untried. Is this all there is in prosecuting? Is not there a higher law which President Lincoln was talking about in his speech. This higher law is and was the law of the people. Then I think of the German People who followed Hitler, or the Italians who did the same, or the Japanese who did the same, and the early American Settlers who destroyed the Indians. To me, this idea to destroy a people or a President is very evil and the Republicans are using these words to protect the Law of the Land and the Constitution. How do we know that this is what they really mean or are they simply after power and after one of the most successful Presidents in recent times. Let us remember the President was trying to protect his family not destroy a country or a business.

I believe The Clinton haters got their wish and stopped President Clinton from protecting his family from this threatening gossip and have wasted the tax payers time and money for their own personal gains and not for the Law of the Land as we may hear Ken Starr iterate and the people who support his view. The lawmakers who continually speak out on this issue are the ones who are using it to promote their careers and moral superiority. But we are a Jewish/Christian Nation and the Sinner and the Saint are the same in the Eyes of God. Although, we must protect the Saints from the Sinners we just cannot have anybody running around. I am sure we all agree on this comment. It is really difficult for me to think that President Clinton is a danger to society. I am more inclined to think he is a danger to the Republican Party and their Conservative Issues.

Lets read what President Lincoln said about conservatism.

He said, "But you say you are conservative--eminently conservative--while we are revolutionary, destructive, or something of the sort. What is conservatism? Is it not adherence to the old and tried, against the new and untried? We stick to, contend for, the identical old policy on the point in controversy which was adopted by "our fathers who framed the Government under which we live;" while you with one accord reject, and scout, and spit upon the old policy, and insist upon substituting something new. True, you disagree among yourselves as to what that substitute shall be. You are divided on new propositions and plans, but you are unanimous in rejecting and denouncing the old policy of the fathers. Some of you are for reviving the foreign slave trade; some for a Congressional Slave-Code for the Territories: etc.."

Do not these words demonstrate to us the present state of condition when one Senator speaks and says one solution and the next says something else as they disagree to what to do with President Clinton and the Impeachment Trail. Or is it just a way to upstage the President so they can have the power of the Television? After all, it is the right of the President to have TV coverage when he requests it. This, the House and Senate do not have this opportunity to speak to the public when they desire. With this trial they get a lot of opportunity to speak to the public. The problem is the topic. Don't you think?

We must learn to leave the President's life personal and not public! We have no right in his family concerns and the public has no right to intrude.

We do have the right to vote the President out of office when the time comes. I would even go so far as to say we must review much of our policy on family intrusion my the Local, State and Federal Government and including the prison systems in our country. The tasks of protecting the rights of the individual must ever go on by reviewing the actions of the power brokers in our society who set policy and conditions under which we live. I have not seen my children in twenty years due to the fact that our court system in the State of Massachusetts, I live in New York, gave custody to the Mother because I lived in New York and had no legal rights in the State of Massachusetts. Which after a time, She ran away never to be seen by me. Is this freedom? Are these rights? I believe the same thing is happening to our President by these so called do gooders, except are they really do gooders or are they simply after their own personal interest like my ex-wife was?

These questions you will have to determine for yourself and make the necessary changes to your personal attitudes and behaviors. We must all learn to study the situation as President Lincoln did in his research and study to come up with his profound ideas and vision for our country. We must not let small minded and little men take over this country. We must allow the great and thoughtful to lead, not the narrow minded politically opportunistic people which we seem to have in Washington. They are not running a business where the business tries to destroy the competition as in the case of Microsoft who as turned out to be a predator and well as an innovator, however if you talk to some Programmers, they seem to have a vision of Microsoft buying up and stealing as much as they could from others. This is a practice of businessmen not the practice of scientists and innovators. They actually are trying to destroy the competition and maybe this is their job. However, I believe we must hold are Government Officials to a higher standard. They are running a country and building a nation. We the People as a Nation must learn to distinguish between the two types of men, the predatorial and the humanitarian.

We as a nation must study and learn to choose the best men to lead us and protect us. We cannot allow these little minded opportunistic types lead us, because they will only lead us into war and destruction and moral decadence of our nation.

I was coming home from my visit to my house in Acapulco where I met a man on the plane from Brooklyn who said about this country, "This country was made my God and is the reason for all our success." We cannot allow our success to be undermined my men of poor vision and self interest. Please review these words in your thoughts and continue to build a strong nation under God as President Lincoln wanted.
